My (Un)Healthy Childhood, Yogurt and Fat Loss

I cymbalta generic hated yogurt as a kid. In fact, I hated most foods. I was one of those kids that absolutely REFUSED to try anything new. In fact, from Kindergarten until sixth grade my lunch consisted of either a bologna sandwich, a cheese sandwich or a bologna and cheese sandwich. Dessert was always either Devil Dogs, Funny Bones or Ring Dings. Veggies with my lunch? Heck no!

I’m not kidding.

Needless to say, I wasn’t in great shape as a youngster. In fact, my Canadian cousins used to call me their “pudgy cousin with a spare tire”. Way to make a ten year old feel good, aye cousins?

So it’s quite ironic that I grew up to be someone who is pretty careful (most of the times) about what he eats, studies holistic nutrition, extols the virtues of full body workouts and high intensity interval training and preaches health and nutrition to his family (I admit I can be a nag sometimes, but I’m getting better) and has a daughter who also refuses to try new foods (this is the most ironic of all…).

Nowadays, I’m willing to try anything that might even remotely provide me some health benefits. Every time my mom sees me eating some new vegetable she just shakes her head and can’t believe it’s me. I just smile and blow her a kiss. :)

When I finally did try yogurt I found that most were just way too sweet for me. Not only that, but once I was smart enough to start reading labels and understand what they meant, I REALLY didn’t like yogurt. Between the added sugar in most brands and the moneygram california artificial sweeteners in the “low calorie” or “sugar free” varieties, I swore off yogurt for good.

Until I tasted for the first time ever discovered Greek Yogurt a few years ago.

Where was this delicious variety of yogurt been hiding my entire life? (Again, ironically, right under my nose since both my parents are from Greece…)

Simply put, Greek Yogurt is awesome. Here’s why:

  • A 6 once serving can contain up to 18 grams of protein (that’s up to three times the amount in some regular yogurts). Protein not only helps build muscle but it also keeps you fuller, longer.
  • Greek Yogurt typically has less carbs (around 9 vs around 15)
  • Greek Yogurt has less sodium than regular yogurt (sometimes almost as much as 50%)
  • Greek Yogurt is typically thicker and creamier
  • It’s a quick, great self contained snack for busy people on the go

Other benefits of yogurt in general:

  • It promotes intestinal and vaginal health
  • It builds stronger bones because of it’s calcium content (although Greek Yogurt typically has less)
  • It enhances immunity
  • It lowers blood pressure

In fact, according to Health.com, in a recent study in the International Journal of Obesity, researchers found that buy cheap acomplia obese adults who ate three servings of fat-free yogurt a day as part of a reduced-calorie diet lost 22% more weight and 61% more body fat than those who just cut calories.

I recommend sticking with the low-fat variety and trying Fage Greek Yogurt.  It’s my favorite order levitra and it will help you minimize the extra fat and calories.

One last tip: For added nutrition and flavor add some berries (I prefer blueberries) and unsalted walnuts and almonds. Now THAT is a powerful snack just full of antioxidants, high in protein and healthy fats. BAM!

Keeping you fit while you stay busy,

George

It is not Greek. Definitely Turkish. In fact, yoghurt is one of the rare things Turks invented.
